Blue
Sky was started by Chuck Elmes, who started playing polo in the
Dominican Republic and Ox Ridge Hunt Club back in the late 1970's.
In the early 80's Chuck developed a housing development in Mahwah,
New Jersey., with a small polo facility as the center. It was
called Ramapo Polo Club, and became an instant success because
of it close proximity to New York City and the very affluent area
of northern New Jersey.
Because of the location it was very easy to obtain great sponsors
and large crowds for the weekend matches. The matches usually
were 12 goals and higher and were played mainly in June and September.
During July and August there was weekly polo, but the Ramapo team
traveled to clubs throughout the northeast to compete in tournaments.
Eventually Chuck began to look for land to expand and built a
true membership club. He finally bought Blue Sky Farm outside
of Middletown in Orange County, New York.
Over the years Chuck has invested a large amount of capital and
put a lot of personal work in making Blue Sky Polo Club a first-class
facility which it now is.
Blue Sky Polo Club is a privately owned and operated club built
by Chuck Elmes, and it is managed by Charly Cendoya, a 4 goal Argentine
player.
Between Chuck, Charly, and an advisory board of members the club
is operated to provide good polo and other activities at an affordable
price while offering some of the best facilities in the northeast.
